anand van – a silent retreat by the river
A retreat imagined for quiet living and ecological harmony.
Anand Van is a conceptual design for an eco-resort nestled along a serene riverbank. Thoughtfully envisioned as a space where architecture treads lightly on the land, the project explores how built form can support rest, reflection, and reconnection—with nature, and with oneself.
The design draws from local traditions and materials—local stone, handcrafted roof shingles, and Kotah stone flooring—chosen for their timeless appeal, thermal comfort, and minimal environmental footprint. Buildings are designed to emerge naturally from the landscape, with forms that follow the topography and open out to river views, filtered through trees and courtyards.
Planned as a series of clustered rooms and open decks, the resort encourages indoor-outdoor living. Elevated decks float above the ground, offering quiet seating nooks among palms and native vegetation. The public zones are arranged around a central courtyard, which functions as a plaza for shared experiences, meals, and performances—while the outer edge remains quiet and immersive, perfect for solitary walks or meditation.
Though unbuilt, Anand Van represents a continuing exploration of how eco-sensitive design can create places that are both restorative and responsible—spaces that offer luxury not in excess, but in stillness, comfort, and connection to the land.
